Each kora come with our free Tuition CD.  It includes the notation and recordings for four Mandinka tunes.

We only sell koras with machine heads, making them much easier to tune. Our koras are approximately 130cm (54") high and have good quality machine heads for ease of tuning. A standard kora has 21 trebles.  We now use the enclosed type, with a lovely smooth mechanism, quality at a reasonable price.

The kora bodies are made by Aliou Gassama in Senegal and are of exceptional quality.  The skins are taut and very white, due to his skill and experience.  The skin is treated with a non-toxic, natural infusion that helps the sun bleach the skins.

The wood used for the necks and bridge is often Bubinga, the African hardwood traditionally used to make necks, and is purchased in the UK from reputable suppliers. We are also now using Beech as it is very strong yet lighter than the Bubinga and has a beautiful  finish.
