Our Standard Kora has a neck made from Beech. We prefer to use Beech because although it is as strong, it is lighter and has a lovely finish. It is also more environmnetally sound to sue this loccaly available wood. A Bubinga neck can be made on request. The neck is varnished with a matte finish to keep the wood its natural colour.
A Standard kora has 21 good quality enclosed machine heads.
The skin’s on all our koras are characteristically pale and taut, thanks to the skills of master craftsman and kora player Aliou Gassama who prepares our kora bodies in Senegal.
